"WANDER" FLEUR DE LIS NECKLACE

I've done several pendants using vintage silver spoons, but here is one a little different. I added a miniature copper plaque with the word "wander" on it. But, that's not all. I recently came across a website selling super miniature brass bolts and nuts! I love them. So, I was able to attach the fleur de lis charm and the plaque, with the tiny bolts. It looks so much better than glued and it'll never come apart.

NEW SILVER SPOONS!

I'm so excited! I found some really interesting spoons, and made some beautiful pendants. They all have a Fleur de Lis charm, as well as colorful beads to compliment the colors on the spoon. I like adding color to the silver spoons by oxidicing them in Liver of Sulfur. I heat the spoons and then submerge them in the liver of sulfur and watch as they change color.

These are one of a kind, of course, as I can't always get large quantities of the same type of spoon. And, as always they are sold at The Walker House and Gardens in downtown Covington.

CRAZY EIGHT EXHIBITION

The Crazy Eight Exhibition presented by the St. Tammany Art Association will take place from November 13 - December 4, 2010. This year it will be opening during the Three Rivers Art Festival on November 13th & 14th, from 10am to 5pm. This is very exciting as it promises to have a great reception.

I've been incredibly busy lately but I was able to work on three pieces to submit to the show. I'm very pleased with them and I hope they are received well.

NATURE ENCAUSTIC PAINTINGS

Still doodling with encaustics. This time I went organic. I incorporated banana tree leaves (all the way from Puerto Rico, mind you), tea bags, New Orleans moss, and a little rust. The result is a pretty cohesive work, I think, with nice lines and an all around good.....I don't know, feel? Yeah, it makes me feel good looking at it.

Shotgun House Painting

Work, work, work...It's been a little while, yes, but I've been busy. Not just with art and jewelry making but with supporting my Saints! Anyway, here is what I've been working on lately, shotgun houses. I've always wanted to live in one of them. I think they are lovely and so artistic. Anyway, these have a little different perspective and they are attached to an old wooden fence board. Love, love, love them.

Fleur de Lis Jewelry

Something a little different this time. Inspired by the Saint's vibe going on heavily around town, I created these bracelets and pendants/necklaces from old vintage spoons. Talking about something different and unique. The spoons are embellished with fleur de lis charms and placed on top of a leather band, which I decorated with acrylic paint. I think they came out pretty good. I did burn one of my fingers heating up the spoon to get it ready for hammering, but that's another story.

My other new venture! Encaustics. I've been teaching myself for the past two months and every day I learn something new. It is definitely a super multiple step process. But, once you get started and have the basics, it's a lot of fun. And the best part is that you can really let go. There's so many things you can do with it. So, I'm just getting started. Many more to come.

Here it's my first post! How exciting! Although, I have had other blogs, somehow this one finally feels right and I can't wait to post, post, post. (or maybe is just all the coffee talking) Regardless, here I am with great intentions....

And here is my first picture ~ Mixed Media, or my attempt at Mixed Media. I have been meddling with this medium for a while, but could never quite get something together, until recently. I was inspired by an artist by the name, Laurie Mika, who incorporates mosaics into her pieces. Well, it finally clicked. I love working with clay, and this would be a great way to introduce it to my work. This one is called "Create." (I have several others to show you) But, do you notice something askew? Horror of all horrors!! Yes, the "e" is missing from "create." I guess working at 3:00 in the morning is not the smartest thing in the world. But do not fret, it will be readily fixed. Just stay in tune.
